Most people understand Karma entirely wrong. Let us first understand whats the common misconception or definition of the philosophy of Karma.
It goes like this… Someone killed a man. He will be killed by someone either shortly or maybe in some near future.
Someone stole my money. He will get his assets stolen too. because you know, Karma!!!
However, this is a really simplistic way of looking at life. The world is too complex of a place to implement such a simple mechanism. Each action in the world has far-reaching implications on other human beings.
I can give accounts of thousands of Mafia, Politicians and famous personalities who were corrupt, killed people themselves or hired people to kill, raped and still died living their lives till the end. Many even in the old age died really smoothly without any physical pain. You can often hear people moaning how corrupt and powerful people get away from the hands of justice and get richer and even more powerful.
So if you steal, kill rape chances are you will get away with it without any issue in your life as God doesn’t hold a “Revenge account book” making sure people get back what they give.
Having said this, Karma really works is subtlest of ways in this world in two forms –
- When you get away with doing something bad it boosts your ego and makes you falsely believe that you can get away with it every time. It emboldens you to repeat the activity/crime. Each time you do a crime it bolsters the dendrites of your nerve cells that propagate the electrochemical stimulation received from other neural cells imprinting the action in your brain. And it significantly increases the probability of you getting caught doing that activity one day in your life.
- While the offender may not get a direct rebuttal of his actions and in his rational mind may think he has gotten away from doing something wrong there are many other layers of his consciousness that know the right from the wrong, unless he is a psychopath. These layers of consciousness if do not work in harmony can wreak havoc inside a persons mind and he can never be truly happy with himself despite all the riches he physically possesses. So he may not get it back from somewhere else but he can surely feel the agony of his actions in his own heart thus making it a punishment.
So I do believe Karma works but the mechanism is really different than we know. Also the success rate of Karma is a bit exaggerated than what it really is.
